My favorite DIY body scrub 💥

I suggest using this in the shower cause it's messy!

Did you know that the earliest known skin scrubs date back to ancient Egypt, where both men and women used a combination of harsh exfoliants, honey, and perfumed oils to keep their skin hydrated and free of wrinkles? They also utilized abrasive materials like alabaster particles and sand and even practiced dry body brushing techniques with pumice stones to maintain smooth and healthy skin.

DIY Body Scrub: Brown Sugar & Olive Oil

I am excited to share one of my favorite DIY body scrubs you can easily make at home.

This scrub is not only effective but also uses simple, natural ingredients that you likely already have in your kitchen.

Brown Sugar and Olive Oil

This brown sugar and olive oil body scrub is more than just a beauty ritual. It's a fantastic way to exfoliate and moisturize your skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth, and rejuvenated.

The combination of brown sugar and olive oil provides gentle exfoliation while deeply hydrating your skin.

Plus, you can customize it with your favorite essential oils for added benefits and a delightful scent.

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (150 grams)

  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar (50 grams) - optional for extra exfoliation

  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (25 grams)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (4 grams) - optional for a sweet aroma

  • 2 drops vitamin E oil - optional for added skin benefits

  • Essential oils (optional, see suggestions below)

  1. Mix the Sugars and Oil: Place 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of turbinado sugar in a small glass container. Gradually mix in 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil until well combined.

  2. Add Aromatics: Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 drops of vitamin E oil if using. The consistency should have a sandy texture.

  3. Customize with Essential Oils: Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to enhance the scrub. Here are some suggestions:

    • Lavender: Relaxing and soothing

    • Peppermint: Refreshing and invigorating

    • Orange: Uplifting and cheerful

    • Tea Tree: Antibacterial and purifying

  4. Store Properly: Seal the container with a lid and store in a cool, dry place. This scrub stays good for up to a month.

How to Use:

  • Application: Use this scrub at the end of a shower or bath. Take about a tablespoon of the scrub in your fingers and rub it in a circular motion on your body.

  • Rinse: Rinse the scrub off fully and enjoy your silky smooth skin.

Benefits of This DIY Body Scrub:

  • Exfoliation: Removes dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth.

  • Hydration: Olive oil deeply moisturizes your skin without stripping it of its natural oils.

  • Customization: Essential oils add aromatherapeutic benefits, enhancing your overall experience.

I hope you enjoy making and using this DIY body scrub as much as I do. It's a simple yet luxurious way to treat yourself and take care of your skin.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experience if you try it!

Sending warmth,

Dr. Catherine 🙏
